www.ufcwlocal1546.org

Bill I would like to hear coments about this .Personaly I think this is good news !I picture lots of backroom brawls lol j/k.

United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) Local 1546 President Kenneth R. Boyd has been appointed to serve as an International Vice President on its Executive Board. UFCW International President Joseph T. Hansen made the announcement on January 26, 2006.

The UFCW International Executive Board serves as an important policymaking body of the organization responsible for national collective bargaining issues, strategic organizing strategies, enhancing membership programs and services, and all budgetary decisions. The International Executive Board, working collaboratively the five UFCW constitutional officers, consists of fifty members representing a geographically diverse base of local union presidents from the U.S. and Canada.

'I proudly accept the appointment of UFCW International Vice President and intend to help steer the organization in a direction that continues to elevate the social and economic status of all workers, their families, and our communities,' stated Boyd. 'Our members rightfully expect that we, as their elected officers, strive to defend and protect their workplace rights and safety. Our clear vision is to advance their livelihoods both on and off the job by initiating public policies, including the need for national health care reform and actively strengthening pension security.'

Kenneth R. Boyd is President of Local 1546 of the UFCW, which represents nearly 30,000 members in Chicago and throughout Illinois, as well as Northwest Indiana. Local 1546 members are employed in a variety of occupations, including: retail food; meat, fish and deli departments; food processing, packing and manufacturing; and health care.

Boyd brings over twenty years of experience with employer benefits plans, and serves on the boards of three health and welfare funds and three pension funds. He also sits on the Trustees Committee of the International Foundation of Employee Benefits.

The UFCW represents 1.4 million workers in North America, working primarily in retail grocery, meatpacking, and other food processing industries.

You know i like Ken and think he is one of the better guys out there. Sadly, the structure is such that the main objective is to make everyone a team player. That's fine if the team you are on is a kick-ass winner, but of late there has been so many losing efforts by the UFCW one has to wonder about the value of clinging to failed strategies and no real plan to succeed.

Here's the other problem Jeff... $20,000.00 That's how much Ken will be payed a year to be one of the chosen few (actually i think there's around 40 or 50 of them who get the stipend). In the history of the UFCW there have only been a couple of times where those on the board have stood up and rattled the fences.

The fact is, a president who is named to the board and lasts ten years picks up a cool $200,000.00 above his/her (lol) outrageous salary and incredible pension. If the UFCW is ever to turn the corner, they need to get a handle on excessive salaries, benefits and perks.

I wish Ken well, but don't hold your breath on him becoming an insurgent and leading a revolt on the castle. The biz union model is all about control and they have devised a marvelous system to keep even the most zealous in their place.

They all say the right things. Prove it !! Mr. Boyd says he will continue to "elevate the social and economical status of all workers, etc."

Man, I must of missed something over the years. It seems that the only thing that continues, is that members are taking concessions and the guys on top are reaping the benefits.

You think this is what Mr. Boyd really ment to say ?

Sorry Bill if he is a friend. He might be a good guy at heart, but there are probably to many sharks in the tank.

Why can't somebody just come out and say, yea we f'd-up and we are going to try and do better next round. Here's how we plan on reaching that goal...

This is pure bullshit, boyd elevated nothing. At best the local he oversees may have deflected concessions longer than the rest but it had little to do with anything boyd did, he was at the mercy of the dualing retailers and sat impotently by while they toss'd members to and fro and then ultimately in the concession dumper.

So horsepucky boyd, before you can "continue to elevate" you must first elevate. I'm disappoint'd, another one bites the dust. I'm colouring boyd ufcw.

You're right Grumpy, if at least one of them could tell the friggin' truth without the rhetoric shit.

I wonder what Mr Boyd has to say to the shit load of Ralphs employees in Northern Ca that will soon be jobless! Maybe something like "Hey thanks for all those dues dollars all you Ralphs workers! While you all starve I'll be living the good life!" At least that would be more than Loveall is saying to his members the silence is deafening

He's in dreamland is he thinks he will have the opportunity to touch the steering wheel. The course is charted. He's either on board or overboard.

He must have read that shit on a plaque on the wall or in some UFCW press release. The members do expect that sort of stuff, but it's never been delivered, so why would anyone expect something different just because Boyd is warming a chair?

Sig are you sure you wrote that message right ? The only reason I say this, is because they really are fat. Whats the opposite of anorexic ? You look in the mirror and see skinny, so you put your head back in the trough.

I'm not shitin'. Every rep., etc. is bulging at the seams. Boy, life sure looks rough for them.

Yes Grumpy I'm sure, ufcw is nothing more than bones. Even the fat cats chewing on them won't be able to much longer, they will soon have to scatter and find other sustenance.
